Eid ul-Adha celebrations to be low key: Manipur’s Pangals

Security analysts, academics and journalists, who have been closely following the 6-week long ethnic strife in Manipur feel early return of peace is a far cry

Amid the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Pangal community (the Muslims of Manipur) said that the Eid ul-Adha celebrations on June 29 will be low-key.

Speaking to the media, the president of the All Manipur Muslim Organizations Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), SM Jalal, said that only the indispensable religious practices such as Namaz and Qurbani will be performed and there will be no festive events.

“We would like to appeal to all the fellow citizens that in the coming Eid ul-Adha we will perform only namaaz and Qurbani. We will not celebrate any kind of joyful and festive events,” SM Jalal said.
The AMMOCOC president appealed to the people not to create any kind of hindrance and disturbance on the day of Eid ul-Adha.

Jalal further said that the Pangal society will put forth all efforts to uphold Manipur’s integrity and will not tolerate any threat to Manipur’s integrity.

“We would like to keep our integrity safe and sound. Nobody can threaten our integrity. If the integrity is threatened the Manipur Muslim community will not tolerate. We will fight together and we will do anything whatever the necessity in this state in order to save our integrity,” Jalal added.

He also announced that Pangal people will carry out a mass protest cum torch rally in Manipur, especially in areas where Pangals reside on June 21.

“The Manipur Muslim community is organizing a mass protest with torch rally on 21 in Manipur, especially in Manipur Muslim community residing areas,” Jalal further added.
