The Election Commission is likely to announce re-polls in as many as 131 polling stations in West Tripura constituency.
This development has come to light following a fax message from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Tripura Government that has been accessed by Northeast Live.
According to the message to the Tripura Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP, the MHA has agreed to Election Commission’s recommendation to deploy additional paramilitary forces in these 131 polling stations for conduct of free and fair re-polls.
In the message, the MHA ensured deployment of a total of 15 companies of BSF including 11 companies from Assam and four existing companies of CRPF till completion of the re-polls.
However, the fax message did not have any mention of the date of re-polls in these 131 polling stations.
Notably, this development comes amid demands made by the opposition in Tripura, including the Congress and the Left Front, for fresh election in West Tripura Parliamentary seat alleging massive booth capturing and rigging.
