Drugs worth Rs 35 lakh seized in Tripura

Drugs worth Rs 35 lakh recovered by Tripura during anti-narcotics drive along Assam-Agartala highway. Crackdown intensifies.

In a major drug haul, Tripura Police on Friday seized huge quantity of drugs worth approximately Rs 35 lakhs and arrested one person in the connection.

Around 150 grams of brown sugar and 30,000 yaba tablets were recovred by the police.

The consignment was recovered after police acting on specific inputs set up a check point to bust the drugs trafficking racket. During the course the police managed to stop the vehicle at the check point at Betbagan along the Assam-Agartala National Highway. Upon frisking the vehicle, the police recovered the contraband substances.

As per police, the vehicle was coming from Mizoram to Tripura.

The vehicle’s driver, who was arrested, has been identified as Sarabul Muslim.

On the occasion of Drugs Disposal day the Tripura Police destroyed contraband worth over Rs 2 crore at Bodhjungnagar seized in the recent past.

The drugs consignment included marijuana, heroin, brown sugar, and other psychotropic substances seized by the police besides the Anti Narcotics unit and other security forces.

As per inputs, 3990 Kgs marijuana, 9416 bottles of banned cough syrup and 33525 Yaba tablets were destroyed.

According to available data, since January 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022 the total quantity of marijuana seized is 99, 620 Kg along with 3,38,403 bottles of cough syrup, 15,76,580 tablets and 8535 grams of heroin.
