Drug peddler injured in encounter with police in Assam’s Lakhimpur

A drug peddler identified as Anarul Islam was injured during an encounter with police in the city of Lakhimpur, Assam, last night. The incident took place when the police were attempting to locate his brother, Saddam Hussain, who is also believed to be involved in illicit drug activities. Police had taken Anarul with them to find his brother.
According to sources, as the police were leading Anarul Islam on the search operation, he made a desperate attempt to escape from their custody. He was shot by the police on his leg and later taken to the Lakhimpur Medical College.
Anarul Islam was arrested recently by Arunachal police. He was taken into custody due to his alleged involvement in a series of drug-related offences.
