Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has once again made it clear that he as well as the people of the state want the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) removed.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh who is camping at the national capital said that he has been constantly pursuing the matter with the Centre and reviewing the situation at regular intervals.
However, the Manipur Chief Minister pointed out that the ground reality must be observed before repealing the AFSPA.

According to N. Biren Singh, national security is paramount for him as he highlighted the fact that Manipur shares almost 390 km of international boundary with Myanmar.
The Chief Minister said that without consultations with the Centre and other stakeholders it would be difficult for him to act independently.
CM Biren Singh statement comes at a time when the NPP has made AFSPA an election issue by promising to strive for its repeal if voted to power.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to contest in all 60 seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held on February 27 and March 3.
CM Biren Singh exuded confidence and said that there will be a massive change this time in the poll results as he hopes that the BJP will cross the 40 seat mark and emerge as the single largest party.

Speaking on the impending elections, CM Biren Singh said that the people of the state aspire for peace and development.
The Chief Minister further added that the once ‘troubled’ state has transformed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah.
When asked about the allotment of party tickets, the Chief Minister said that the decision lies with the BJP’s Parliamentary Committee.
He also ruled out any kind of pre-poll alliance.
On the other hand, CM N Biren Singh said that the party leadership will decide on the Chief Ministerial candidate.
He feels that his primary role is to bring the BJP back to power with a full majority.
