Cyclone Fani: Assam govt takes steps to evacuate Assam tourists from Puri

At least 40 of the stranded pilgrims and tourists from Assam have been evacuated from Puri on Thursday with the Odisha government evacuating people from coastal areas to safer places

At least 40 of the stranded pilgrims and tourists from Assam have been evacuated from Puri on Thursday with the Odisha government evacuating people from coastal areas to safer places as cyclonic storm Fani moved closer.

The Assam Chief Minister’s office told Northeast Live that arrangements are being made to bring back the remaining people by Saturday.

CM Sarbananda Sonowal held talks with Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, who assured all necessary support to ensure that all those stranded would be brought back home safe.

Devotees and tourists from Assam can now breathe a sigh of relief, there were about 190 people from the state stranded at Assam Yatri Niwas in Puri.
