As many as 14 persons, including women have been arrested by the Aizawl Police in Mizoram for allegedly spreading fake news on the spread of COVID-19 in social media.
This was informed exclusively to Northeast Live by Inspector General of Mizoram Police, L Shanliana.
The Mizoram IGP said that these 14 persons were arrested late last evening after the State Police filed a suo-moto case.
A case has also been registered with the Vaivakawn Police Station against the 14 arrested persons for allegedly spreading fake news in WhatsApp groups.
The arrested persons allegedly spread rumours saying that a suspected COVID-19 positive case has been detected in Aizawl and that the patient had returned from Singapore.
Notably, no COVID-19 positive case has been reported in the Northeast so far.
