Covid alert in Assam: Nearly 7000 new cases, 11 deaths in 24 hours

Assam has witnessed a massive spike in Covid -19 cases. A total of 6,982 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours pushing the tally to 65,3,717.

As compared to Sunday’s figures of 2,709 cases, Assam reported an increase of 4,273 new cases, which is more than double.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate has reached an alarming level of 10.75 percent, which is an increase of 1.76 percent as compared to the previous day.

The fresh wave of the COVID-19 outbreak has reached an alarming level in the Kamrup(Metropolitan) district.

Of the total fresh cases, Kamrup (M) reported the most cases with 1,491 followed by Dibrugarh (489), Tinsukia (407), Cachar (372).

The fresh cases of the infection put the current active caseload of Assam at 23,948.

Meanwhile, the state reported as many as 11 Covid related deaths yesterday. The death toll due to the virus now stands at 6,217.

On the other hand, 2,281 patients were discharged during the period after attaining full recovery. This puts the recovery rate at 95.18 percent.

This massive spike in COVID cases in the state is indeed a cause of grave concern.

It is high time that everyone adheres to the COVID protocols. Wearing face masks have been found effective in defeating COVID-19. Be alert and do not panic.
