In view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the Mizoram government on Monday decided to impose a 2-week total lockdown in the state starting from June 9. The lockdown guidelines will be notified later today.

The decision was taken after a consultative meeting chaired by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

CM Zoramthanga taking to Twitter said that total lockdown will be imposed for 2 weeks starting Monday midnight. He added that the period of quarantine will be extended from 14 to 21 days.

The decision comes after 8 more cases (Male-3, Female-5) were detected in the state on Monday, taking the total number of positive cases to 42. They were diagnosed with COVID-19 at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC).

Of the 8 patients, 5 are from Champhai district near Myanmar border, 2 from Khawzawl district and 1 from Siaha district. All fresh cases are returnees from Delhi and are currently asymptomatic.
