BJP, HSPDP, PDF and two independents to be part of the government. Mukul Sangma seems to be losing the plot

NPP’s Conrad Sangma will be sworn in on March 7 for a second consecutive term as Meghalaya Chief Minister. BJP (2 MLAs), HSPDP (2 MLAs), PDF (2 MLAs) and 2 Independents will be part of the NPP-led government, people close to the developments told Northeast.
NPP had won 26 seats. Thirty-one is the number needed to form government in a 60-member Assembly. The number of seats won by NPP, BJP, HSPDP, PDF and the independents adds up to 34, comfortable number for the NPP and its allies to form the government.
Conrad Sangma has already submitted the letters of support from the 34 MLAs to Governor Phagu Chauhan earlier today.
This time UDP would not be part of the NPP-led government, the sources confirmed.
It must be mentioned here that former Meghalaya CM and TMC leader is not ready to give up and he is trying his best to stitch up an alliance with UDP (11 MLAs) and VPP (4 MLAs). TMC has 5 MLAs. This adds up to 19. If Congress comes on board with their 5 MLAs then the number goes up to 26, still 5 short of the majority mark of 31 unless, the Meghalaya political veteran is successful in wooing any of the HSPDP, PDF or Independent MLAs.
Definitely, the Meghalaya political scene has become interesting. It remains to be seem if Mukul Sangma will be successful in breaking the NPP-alliance and stake claim to form the government instead.
