Cloudburst in Arunachal’s Mechuka Triggers Flash Floods, Causes Widespread Damage

A massive cloudburst in Menchuka, Shi Yomi district, has led to severe flash floods, damaging homes, homestays, fish ponds, and bridges.

In the early hours of Thursday, a massive cloudburst struck Menchuka in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi district, triggering severe flash floods that caused widespread destruction.

The floodwaters have damaged several houses, homestays, and fish ponds in the Dorjelling area. Two key bridges, including an RCC bridge and a hanging bridge, were also severely affected.

The worst-hit areas are from Salman Point to Shekhor village, where the flash floods wreaked havoc.

Deputy Commissioner of Shi Yomi district, Liyi Bagra, informed Northeast Live that teams of officials have been dispatched to survey the damage. Bagra has instructed them to submit a detailed damage assessment report as soon as possible.

Menchuka, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning landscapes, usually attracts many visitors, particularly during the winter months. This incident raises concerns about the impact on local tourism and infrastructure.
