Sri Raghupati created history by being the first Assamese film to breach the Rs 10 crore mark and garner over Rs 12.5 cr at the Box Office

It is a proud moment for Assamese cinema also known as Jollywood as it has been experiencing significant growth in recent times.

Despite its rich history and remarkable aesthetic achievements, Assamese cinema has struggled a lot to gain widespread recognition, but a few recently released films not only managed to gain widespread recognition but also broke the Box Office records of Assamese cinema and scripted history by making their way to the crorepati club.

These films have also left a lasting impression on audience.

Sri Raghupati:

Directed by Suvrat Kakoty and produced by Sailen Kumar Sharma for Mairatna Entertainment grossed over Rs 10 crore at the box office in the first 21 days. Total collection is estimated at Rs 12.5 crore approximately, highest so far by any Assamese film.

The film which was released on June 2, revolves around the character Raghupati Rai Baruah, an honest and dedicated ACS officer, played by popular Assam actor Ravi Sharma.
Raghupati had a budget of just Rs 2 crore.

Ratnakar:
Actor-director Jatin Bora, Ratnakar is another Assamese film that crossed the Rs 10 crore mark in box office collections. Jatin Bora’s Ratnakar, which was released on October 11, 2019, also crossed the Rs 10 crore mark.

Singer-music composer Zubeen Garg’s beautiful composition was a bonus. Songs like Rati Rati and Eta Kotha struck a chord with everyone. The film was made with just Rs 1.7 crore.

Kanchanjangha:
Produced by Zubeen Garg and his wife Garima Garg- ‘Kanchanjangha’ released on 6 September 2019, and collected over Rs 7 crore.

The film received a fantastic response from the people, earning Rs. 22.5 lakh on its first day. Kanchanjangha was able to pocket over a crore in just first three days.

Kanchanjangha stars Zubeen Garg, Pabitra Rabha, Sasanka Samir, and Dhritiman Phukan among others. The movie revolves around Anirban who goes through ups and downs in pursuit of his dreams.

Kanchanjangha surpassed Zubeen Garg’s first movie Mission China’s box office collections.

Dr. Bezbaruah 2:

The mystery thriller drama directed by Assamese filmmaker and actor late Nipon Goswami was released on 3 February 2023.

The film collected Rs 7 crore in the Box Office. The film collected Rs 1 crore in three days.

In Dr. Bezbarua 2, the lead roles were played by Adil Hussain and Zubeen Garg. Also in the movie are Siddharth Nipon Goswami and Kinkini Bhattacharya, son and daughter-in-law of the legendary Assamese actor Nipon Goswami who directed the film and he had played the lead role in the original Dr Bezbarua. Unfortunately, Nipon Goswami passed away just days before the release of Dr Bezbarua 2.

Mission China:

The Zubeen Garg-starrer ‘Mission China’ released on 8 September 2017, has collected Rs 6 crore in the Box Office. The film raked in Rs 1.25 at the Box Office within 3 days of its release.
Mission China collected approximately Rs 40 lakh on its first day of release.

The action drama film was directed by Zubeen Garg himslef and produced by his wife Garima Saikia Garg.
