Champai Soren to be sworn in as Jharkhand CM today

Champai Soren, veteran leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), will take oath today as the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held around 12.15 pm at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan.

Champai Soren was nominated for the chief minister’s post by Governor CP Radhakrishnan after the arrest of current CM Hemant Soren on Thursday in an alleged money laundering case.

State Congress chief Rajesh Thakur whose party is a constituent of the alliance said that Champai Soren has been given 10 days to prove his government’s majority.

Champai Soren is known to be a loyalist of Hemant Soren and is considered as close to Hemant’s father Shibu Soren.

In Hemant Soren’s government, he was the Minister of Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Caste, and Welfare of Backward Classes.

Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday evening after he met the Governor and submitted his resignation from the top post.

The ED has alleged that Hemant Soren is involved in a Rs 600-crore land scam and the laundering of its proceeds.
