The Central government has released an additional grant-in-aid of Rs 786.15 crore to Meghalaya for the third straight year for providing functional household tap connections (FHTCs) under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

Taking to X, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote, “Extension of JJM Bonus to Meghalaya for the 3rd Consecutive Year”

“Expressing gratitude to the Government of India for allocating an additional Rs. 786.15 crores as a bonus installment to Meghalaya’s Jal Jeevan Mission, bringing this year’s total allotment to Rs. 1500 crores.”, CM added.

“This contribution boosts our endeavor to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every household”, Conrad tweeted.

Last year, Meghalaya has achieved over 4 lakh functional household tap connection under JJM, a flagship programme of the Centre launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2019.

“Meghalaya’s achievement of 4,71,544 connections is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the government in realising this vision”, CM said.

“Meghalaya has crossed the national average in terms of connections for Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). If you recall when we started the mission, Meghalaya was at 0.75 per cent which was the lowest in the country.

Today, after a lot of hard work being done by all the engineers, officials, departments, and ministers, we have finally crossed the national average which is at 72.1 per cent and Meghalaya, today is at 72.37 per cent,” CM Sangma added.
