Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Zo Kut Pui in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assigned him with the task of bringing peace in the region, especially Manipur.

Stating that peace is the need of the hour, Zoramthanga said said he will invite all rebel leaders whether underground or over ground to the negotiating table for resolving the issues. Subsequent to this, the Centre will be appraised of the issues.

Zoramthanga also urged the various underground groups in Manipur divided on ethnic lines to shed their differences and come on one platform.

Besides, he also urged the Zo descendants whether they are underground or over ground, not to name their organization on the basis of their tribes.

The Mizoram Chief Minister emphasized that it is time to live in unity.

While speaking about the peace efforts, the Mizoram Chief Minister also referred to the recently signed Bodo Peace Accord, conclusion of the decades long vexed Naga political issue, besides rebel group NLFT coming to the mainstream in Tripura.

It is not immediately clear, however, whether Zoramthanga will try to reach out to only the Zo rebel groups or all outfits in Manipur.

Meanwhile, Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga also called on his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh on Thursday morning before leaving for Aizawl.

It may be mentioned that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had recently appealed to the rebel groups in Manipur to come to the negotiating table.
