In a tragic incident, a Military Helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Staff  Bipin Rawat crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor today. News Agency ANI citing reliable sources has said that 13 out of the 14 on board are dead and their identities are being confirmed with DNA testing.

Soon after the incident defence minister Rajnath Singh has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the incident. He briefed him on the crash and other details surrounding it. The government is likely to issue a statement on the incident at the Parliament on Thursday.

However, there is no immediate information on the condition of General Rawat yet. Along with General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder, Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitender Kumar, Naik Vivek Kumar, Naik B. Sai Teja, Havaldar Satpal and pilots were travelling abroad the Mi-17V-5 helicopter. 

CDS General Rawat was on his way from the Sulur IAF Station to the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington in Coonoor when the chopper crashed at 12:20 pm.

The Indian Air Force has already initiated an inquiry into the whole incident.
