First Published: 11th October, 2024 21:10 IST

The CBI has officially assumed control of 41 online trading scam cases in Assam, following a request from the state government for a thorough investigation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken charge of 41 cases related to an online trading scam in Assam. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government had requested the central government to transfer all 41 registered cases to the CBI to ensure a fair investigation. Sarma confirmed that the state had given its formal consent for the central agency to proceed.

Last month, the Assam cabinet decided to hand over 32 cases related to the trading investment scam to the CBI. Prior to this, local police had made several arrests, including that of 22-year-old Bishal Phukan, along with actor and influencer Sumi Bora and her husband.
