In a big success for security forces, a notorious smuggler who has long been involved in illicit cattle smuggling was shot dead by BSF jawans at Yakubnagar in Tripura’s North district on late Friday night.
Acting on specific inputs, a team of 166th Border Security Force led by DIG Rajiv Doa intercepted the smuggler while he was trying to cross over to the Bangladesh side at Yakubnagar near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The smuggler, who has been identified as Bappa Miah, a resident of Batuli village in Bangladesh, was shot dead between 2:30pm and 3:30pm last night.
Meanwhile, DIG Rajiv Doa briefed reporters at the incident side and detailed the sequence of events that led to the smuggler’s death.
