According to top sources, the chief minister reviewed the prevailing conditions following the series of violent anti-CAA protests in the state.
Briefing newspersons after the meeting, Sootea BJP MLA Padma Hazarika said that the party MLAs demanded the leadership to allay apprehensions prevalent in the minds of the indigenous people of the state.
The BJP MLAs also unanimously decided to move the state government to press the Centre for safeguarding the Assamese language even if a constitutional amendment is required.
The MLAs also demanded for implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord at the earliest besides fulfiling the demands of the 6 communities seeking ST status and other privileges.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has also convened a cabinet meeting at 3 PM at his official residence.
Both the meetings assume significance, after at least 20 BJP MLAs met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday and raised concerns over the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state.
