"Even I am not satisfied with the works of Bodoland University VC Laishram Ladu Singh," said CM Sarma
The Bodo heartland Kokrajhar is witnessing intermittent protests for months demanding removal of Vice Chancellor of the Bodoland University, Laishram Ladu Singh over his alleged involvement in financial irregularities in the learning institute.
Speaking on the controversy, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the VC is adamant and he is unwilling to leave the position.
Talking to media on the sidelines of ceremonial distribution programme of Orunodoi cards in Kokrajhar, CM Sarma said, ” Even I am not satisfied with the works of Bodoland University VC Laishram Ladu Singh. We have suggested him to resign. Neither the students of the University, nor the public likes him. He would have resigned long back, if he had any self-respect. State Education Minister Ranoj pegu also asked him to resign, but he is admant and not willing to leave the position. Moreover, under Laishram Ladu Singh’s direction, the university’s atmosphere has only grown worse. The State government is looking into the matter to find out how Singh can be removed from his position through law.”
Earlier this year, a team of Special Vigilance Cell of the Chief Minister had arrested Ladu Singh for his involvement in the corruption cases. The vigilance cell had reportedly taken away as many as nine official files from the office chamber of Singh for investigation.
However, Singh could obtain bail very shortly after the arrest and has been performing official work of the University despite being arrested.
A case of embezzlement of money from the University was registered against the Vice Chancellor on May 2022.
This has irked the different pressure groups in the Bodo heartland who are now seeking removal of Laishram Ladu Singh at the earliest.
Yesterday, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has warned to shut down the University if Laishram Ladu Singh is not removed from the position of VC at the University at the earliest.
Not only this, the influential students body is also mulling to gherao the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) in Guwahati and block the National Highway 31 (C).
