Another big takeaway of the Tripura polls has been the decent enough performance of debutant TIPRA Motha which won 13 seats
It is a back to back to win for the BJP in Tripura. Though there was a change of guard in the party with Manik Saha replacing Biplab Kumar Deb as the Chief Minister, the party has managed to win 32 seats. Though it is 4 less than in 2018, the saffron party’s aim to further strengthen its foothold in the once upon a time Left bastion by winning one more time has been achieved.
Another big takeaway of the Tripura polls has been the decent enough performance of debutant TIPRA Motha which won 13 seats. The CPI-M (Marxist) meanwhile, also won 11 seats, 5 short of it’s winning tally in 2018. The Congress could manage to win only in 3 seats. BJP ally IPFT won just one seat, down from 8 in 2018.
If we speak about some of the big winners, as well as losers the list includes:
Chief Minister Manik Saha who defeated Asish Kumar Saha of the Congress by a margin of 1257 votes in the Town Bordowali constituency.
Tripura Speaker Ratan Chakraborty of BJP defeated veteran CPI (Marxist) leader Pabitra Kar by a margin of 4110 votes. Kar’s defeat is indeed a big upset for the CPI-M.
Pratima Bhoumik of BJP who defeated Kaushik Chanda of Communist Party of India (Marxist) by a margin of 3500 votes.
Tripura ICA minister Majlishpur Sushanta Chowdhury of BJP who defeated Sanjoy das of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Majlishpur by a margin of 5172 votes.
Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education of Tripura Santana Chakma of BJP who defeated Sadhan Kumar Chakma of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) by a margin of 7973 votes.
Education minister Ratan Lal Nath (Mohanpur constituency) of the BJP who defeated Tapas Dey of the Tipra Motha Party by a margin of 7385 votes.
Tripura Home minister Ram Prasad Paul of BJP who defeated Susanta Chakraborty of the Congress by a margin of 1908 votes in the Suryamaninagar seats.
Animesh Debbarma of TIPRA MOTHA and deputy CEM of TTAADC who defeated former IPFT president NC Debbarma’s daughter Jayanti Debbarma of the IPFT by a margin of 18328 votes.
