Bina Basnett, Founder-President of HSP, joins SDF today

In a big political development ahead of the Sikkim Assembly elections early next year, the Founding President of Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) Bina Basnett on Saturday joined the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party.

Bina Basnett joined the SDF at a programme in the party headquarters in Gangtok in the presence of SDF chief Pawan Chamling and other party leaders. HSP president Bhaichung Bhutia who is also supposed to join SDF was also present at the joining programme. Along with Bina Basnett, Sikkim Young entrepreneur Robin Basnett and Ret Principal Director of Printing department, Government of Sikkim Nawong tshring Lepcha also joined SDF.

Dr Bina Basnett, besides being the Founding President of the HSP, is a physician by profession and also a well-known socio-political figure in the Himalayan state.

Earlier, former football legend turned-politician Bhaichung Bhutia had officially announced his decision to join the SDF party. Bhutia had launched HSP in 2018 to fight the SDF that was ruling Sikkim then. After signing out from the world of football in 2011, the former India captain, Bhutia joined TMC (Trinamool Congress) in 2014 and was the Trinamool’s Lok Sabha candidate from Darjeeling and assembly candidate from Siliguri in 2016. He lost both elections before quitting the TMC in February 2018.
