Bihu gift: Assam to get NE India’s first AIIMS hospital at Changsari on Apr 14

In a significant boost to the healthcare infrastructure of the North East region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first AIIMS of the Northeast, AIIMS Guwahati on April 14. The hospital, which was built at a cost of Rs 1123 crore, will offer state-of-the-art facilities to the people of the region.

The hospital will provide outpatient and emergency services and have a 750-bedded in-patient facility managed by specialty and super-specialty departments equipped with all state-of-the-art amenities. The institute will have an annual intake capacity of 125 MBBS students and a nursing college with an annual intake of 75 students every year.

The hospital will operate from its main campus located at Changsari in the outskirts of the city.

The operationalization of AIIMS, Guwahati will mark a momentous occasion for the state of Assam and the entire North-East region.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya shared the stunning pictures of the new institute on his social media handle, calling it “Ayushman Northeast!” and BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also tweeted about the event, expressing his excitement about the new hospital.

It is to be mentioned that AIIMS Guwahati started its first academic session on January 12, 2021, with a batch of 50 MBBS students and 21 faculty members across four departments from a temporary campus located at Narakasur Hill-Top, Guwahati. In 2022, the Institute further expanded with the joining of the new batch of MBBS students as well as the faculty members of para-clinical and clinical specialty and super-specialty departments.
