Big Crackdown on Drugs in Manipur; Narcotics Worth Rs 118 Crore Seized from an Auto Rickshaw

Crackdown on Drugs: Securitry forces intensify operations to curb smuggling of narcotics in Manipur, especially in border town Moreh.

In a major drug haul, the Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police has seized narcotics worth over Rs 118 crore from an auto rickshaw. Acting on specific inputs, the Moreh Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Commandos of Tengnoupal Police caught the illegal substance at New Moreh along the India-Myanmar border.

The consignment was intercepted at the Mobile Vehicle Checkpost at Phungchong village at New Moreh along the India-Myanmar border.

Based on specific inputs from reliable sources regarding the movement of a drug dealer along with the banned substances, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was established in Phungchong.

Accordingly, an auto rickshaw was stopped on the basis of suspicion. Upon frisking the vehicle, 118 kg of suspected Pseudoephedrine tablets were recovered which was packed in 5 sacks. It may be mentioned the that Pseudoephedrine is the main ingredient to make Methamphetamine tablets.

Further probe to ascertain the source and the racket behind smuggling the contraband substance is still underway.
