Bhutan climber Jigme Pelden Dorje creates history, becomes first Bhutanese to conquer Mt. Everest

Jigme Pelden Dorje, a climber from Bhutan who is also a Lieutenant at Royal Bhutan Army has created history by becoming the first Bhutanese to conquer Mount Everest. This was announced by the ‘Pioneer Adventure’, Nepal.

Dorje along with his guide Chakra Rai and the support team reached Mt. Everest at 9:30 am today.

After completing the acclamatisation process, the 24-year-old climber was waiting for a favourable weather window for the summit push at the Everest Base Camp.

Marking a milestone for him and Bhutan, Jigme Pelden Dorje and his 15-member expedition team (excluding Sherpas) from Pioneer Adventures left Everest Base Camp on May 16 and successfully conquered the world’s highest peak today.

Sharing his excitement and patriotism, Dorje said, “Standing on the top of Everest fills me with immense pride as a Bhutanese. This climb is a tribute to my country, our monarch, and our enduring spirit of exploration.”

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman of Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd, expressed his pride and said, “We are delighted to have been part of Jigme’s historic climb. Our guides are committed to ensuring the success and safety of the climbers. Congratulations to Jigme for this extraordinary achievement.”
