Bengaluru police on Friday shot and foiled an escape bid by the four arrested Bangladesi criminals who had stripped and sexually abused a girl from their country whom they had trafficked into India.

The four men and an woman accomplice who were arrested by the Bengaluru police yesterday were taken to their rented accommodation by the police to recreate the crime scene when they tried to flee. Police then opened fire, injuring two of them on the leg.

The ghastly crime that was video recorded by one of the gang members later became viral on the social media that eventually led to the arrest of the rapists following a multi-city police manhunt.

The Assam Police CID too joined the probe and had announced a reward for inputs on the perpetrators.

While the two injured criminals are being treated at a hospital in Bengaluru, police in the Northeast are focusing on the Trans-National human trafficking racket.

It may be mentioned that the victim was trafficked to India several months ago by a fellow Bangladeshi who lured her on the pretext of sending her to Saudi Arabia for a lucrative job.

As per police statement, the victim is currently in a neighboring state and a police team has been dispatched to trace her so that she could join the investigation. Following interrogation of the accused it was learnt that the victim, who is also part of the same group, was brutalized due to financial differences.

On the basis on the contents of the video clip and facts disclosed during preliminary interrogation of the accused, a case of rape and assault has been registered at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.
