The Nagaon Court has awarded death penalty to Zakir Hussain, who was convicted for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old–girl in Nagaon district’s Batadrava on March 23.

The Prime accused, raped the victim along with two other minors, before setting her on fire.

The victim who had sustained 90 percent burn injuries breathed her laast at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

The incident triggered shockwaves across the state while the government faced severe criticism for the rise in crimes against women and children.
