Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala Resumes Visa Services

The visa and consular services were suspended on 3 December last year due to a security breach at the mission.
After a suspension of over two months, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala resumed accepting visa applications on Wednesday. The decision has been warmly welcomed by individuals eager to visit Bangladesh for various purposes, including family reunions.
The visa and consular services were suspended on 3 December last year due to a security breach at the mission. The previous day, members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti entered the premises during a protest against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. The protesters vandalised property and removed the Bangladeshi national flag, leading to the suspension of services.
Following the incident, seven individuals were arrested, and three police officers were suspended for alleged negligence. The Ministry of External Affairs of India termed the breach “deeply regrettable” and reaffirmed that diplomatic and consular properties must not be targeted.
The resumption of services is seen as a positive step in strengthening India-Bangladesh ties, demonstrating a commitment to resolving past challenges and enhancing diplomatic cooperation.
