Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna’s fairytale journey in the Australian Open 2023 mixed doubles final came to an end with a 6-7, 2-6 defeat to the Brazilian pair of Luisa Stefani/Rafael Matos.

Sania Mirza, who was playing her final Grand Slam, had previously won three women’s doubles Grand Slam titles and as many in mixed doubles in her career while Bopanna has won one mixed doubles Grand Slam title.

The unseeded Indian pair of Sania and Bopanna had earlier knocked out third seeds Desirae Krawczyk and Neal Skupski 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 10-6 in the semifinals of Australian Open 2023. The pair had received a walkover in their quarter-final match.
