ATSUM lashes out at Govt for eliminating ‘Autonomous’ word

The emergency shutdown has been imposed in the hill districts, including Senapati, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul Tamenglong, and Churachandpur districts.
The All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) has lashed out at the State government for “manipulating” the tribal populace of the state by introducing ‘Vested interest individual bills’ eliminating the important word ‘Autonomous’.
The Apex tribal student body also lashed out at Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hill Areas Minister Lepao Haokip for introducing the Manipur Hill Areas District Council Bill 2022 while removing the word ‘Autonomous’.
ATSUM also stated the Tribals in Manipur under the banner of ATSUM have been striving towards inclusive governance for better transparency and bridge the gap of development, to bring equal development.
The Union added, under Article 371 C, Tribals of Manipur under the Govt of India have the full authority and autonomy under AUTONOMOUS DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Meanwhile, the situation continues to be tense in Manipur’s hill districts with ATSUM calling an emergency shutdown of the hill areas following the detention of its president, general secretary, and some executive members by the police.
The emergency shutdown has been imposed in the hill districts, including Senapati, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul Tamenglong, and Churachandpur districts. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded along National Highway 2 also or the Kohima-Imphal Highway.
