Assamese Documentary ‘Hargila’, Earns Special Mention in National Film Awards 2022

The film has already won accolades at nine international festivals.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious National Film Awards 2022 on Tuesday, honouring winners across various categories. Among the celebrated films, Hargila, an Assamese non-feature film, received a special mention for its impactful portrayal of conservation.

Directed by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Hargila documents the remarkable efforts of the women from the villages of Dadara and Pasari, brought together by environmentalist Purnima Devi Barman. Their mission to protect the endangered greater adjutant stork, locally known as “Hargila,” has turned into an inspiring conservation success story.

The short film has been widely appreciated and has already won the Best Documentary award at nine international film festivals.

Produced by PI Entertainment, ‘Hargila’ is the product of a talented team with script by Indrani Baruah, editing by Samujjal Kashyap and Gautam Mazumdar, and cinematography by Amiya Ranjan Das, Joyprakash Chakravarty, and Manas Sagra.
