CBI Officially Takes Over 41 Cases Related To The Stock Market Scam In Assam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken over 41 cases related to the online stock trading scam registered across Assam.

Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma taking to social media said to ensure a fair investigation into the online stock trading scam, the Assam Government had requested the Centre to formally hand over all 41 registered cases to the CBI.

Taking to X, he wrote “To ensure a fair investigation on the online stock trading scam, we requested Govt of India to formally hand over all 41 registered cases to the CBI. CBI is officially taking over this matter and we’ll extend all possible support to ensure that justice is served at the earliest.”

Notably, the online trading scam in the state came to light during the last week of August when investors, who had put in huge amounts of money in 29-year-old Deepankar Barman’s company, complained that he had not paid them the due returns and his office has been closed since August 21. He is absconding at present.

Over 65 people have been arrested in connection with the scam so far and 14 SITs were set up to investigate the cases registered across several districts.

An Assamese actor, choreographer, and social media influencer Sumi Borah, and her photographer husband Tarkik Borah are among those arrested in the scam so far.

Until September, the Assam police had arrested over 60 individuals in connection with the fraudulent trading scam and have constituted 14 Special Investigation Teams (SITs) under the supervision of the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID).
