The deceased has been identified as Saharbanu Nessa

Man-elephant conflict has become a crucial issue in Assam. In a tragic incident, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Tengabari area of Goalpara on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Saharbanu Nessa.

Reportedly, a herd of elephants had been frequenting the area for the past few days in search of food.

The attack may have been provoked by people who tried to chase away the elephants as they usually destroy crops and grain storages during their search for food.

Earlier, on October 17, another woman was killed in a wild elephant attack also in Goalpara. The incident was reported from the Bhalukdubi area. The woman died after she was crushed beneath the elephant’s feet.
