Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday gave away the best tableaux awards for the 71st Republic Day parade at Rajpath in New Delhi.
Assam’s tableau that took part in the Republic Day celebrations, has been chosen as the best tableau, followed by Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. The Assam tableau showcased unique bamboo and cane craftsmanship along with the cultural dance form of ‘Bhortal Nritya’.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal taking to Twitter wrote, “Glad to share the good news that the Assam tableau won first prize at this year’s #RepublicDay parade.
I congratulate all associated with the beautiful exposition of our cultural heritage that was welcomed with warmth by the nation.

This year, President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro was the Guest of honour for the parade ceremony. The president witnessed the ceremony along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other dignitaries.
A total of 22 tableaux from 16 States and UTs, 6 from various ministries and departments were displayed in the Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi.
While, Odisha’s tableau has bagged the 2nd prize, Uttar Pradesh secured the 3rd prize.
