The intern doctor identified as Anurag Dey is accused of physically brutally assaulting a man identified as Vanrai Rongmai
The intern doctor of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam’s Barak Valley who is accused of allegedly kicking and brutally beating up a man inside the hospital on Monday has been rusticated for 3 months by the hospital authorities.
The intern doctor identified as Anurag Dey is accused of brutally assaulting Bonrai Rongmai who works as drug inspector in the Health Department of Assam Government.
Bonrai Rongmai along with his cousin sister had visited a relative of theirs who was admitted at the SMCH. While they were there with the patient, a junior doctor came to collect the patient’s blood sample. When Bonrai’s cousin sister asked the doctor if he was an intern or postgraduate intern, this infuriated the doctor and an argument took place between the government official and the intern doctor.
Bonrai said that they grabbed him, took him to a room and started brutally assaulting him with an iron rod. He also alleged that the doctors kicked and beat him and called him Chinese. Vanrai is currently undergoing treatment.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Principal of SMCH, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta said that they immediately intervened after getting the information last night. Although it is said that many other doctors were also involved in the inhuman act, but since Bonrai named Anurag Dey only, the hospital authorities have rusticated him for three months from both Medical College and the hostel.
Furthermore, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
“If we find other doctors involved in it, action against them will be taken as well,” said Dr. Bhaskar Gupta.
Meanwhile, the family members of the injured Bonrai Rongmai gheroed the SMCH Administration building demanding justice for him and strict action against the accused.
Talking to Northeast Live mother of victim told that she too works at SMCH. When she tried to stop the doctors, they pushed her to the ground and kicked her repeatedly. She also said, “I went on my knees and folded hands before them, I begged them to stop and leave Vanrai, but got unheard.”
