Security forces have confirmed the involvement of the ULFA-I in the grenade attack targeting the Army’s Kopahtoli Company Operating Base (COB) last evening.

According to the police, while Achyutananda, who is a resident of Kakopathar in Tinsukia district, had surrendered before the police with a hand grenade on Wednesday afternoon, the other cadre Saurav Asom might have lobbed the grenade at the army’s Kapahtoli COB last evening.
Sources also told Northeast Live that Achyutananda, during interrogation had revealed that superior leaders in the organization had been threatened him of ‘strict punishment’ if he fails to accomplish tasks assigned to him.
It may be mentioned, two motorcycle borne youths had tried to lob the grenade targeting the camp, but primarily due to the alertness of the on duty sentries, the grenade missed the target which prevented from any kind of desired impact. Sources said that road blockades have been placed towards Namsai and Kakopathar.
CCTV footage from the area is being scanned.
