In a historic affiliation, the Assam Regiment and the Arunachal Scouts of the Indian Army were affiliated to the 106 Squadron of the Indian Air Force at Tezpur in Assam on Monday.
Major General PS Behl, Colonel of the Assam Regiment and the Arunachal Scouts inspected the Guard of Honour and thereafter, the ‘Charter of Affiliation’ was signed by Major General PS Behl and Group Captain Varun Slaria, Commanding Officer of 106 Squadron.
The affiliation was aimed at better understanding each other’s operational ethos and a step towards jointmanship and reinforces the synergy between various combat arms of the Defence Services.
The Assam Regiment was raised on 15 Jun 1941 winning six Battle Honours in the Second World War. The contribution of the Regiment in Burma Campaign and in 1971 Indo-Pak war in changing the course of the battle is also well documented in history.
On the other hand, 106 Squadron was raised on 11 Dec 1959 with Liberators aircraft and currently operates the Sukhoi 30 MKI from Air Force Station Tezpur. They are the most decorated squadron of the Indian Air Force with three Maha Vir Chakras and seven Vir Chakras.
