A power crisis that has gripped particularly the rural areas in Kokrajhar district of Assam has severely affected students who have been preparing for their board examinations–High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations.
There are allegations that students are experiencing difficulties studying because Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is not supplying electricity properly during the study time.
Areas impacted by the power outage are–Magurmari, Sesapani, Komolachora, Duramari, Hakoipara, Kalipukhuri, Joregaon.
After the parents of the students raised the concern, the All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) today expressed its anger at Kokrajhar’s electricity department and submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner (DC) demanding proper supply of electricity during study time.
Speaking to media, a ABMSU member said, “The HSLC exams are set to begin on February 16 and the Higher Secondary exams started today. The way the electricity department is supplying electricity is affecting the students appearing for their examinations severly. Both in the morning and the evening, during the students’ study time, they are left without a sufficient power supply for more than three to four hours.”
ABMSU said that they had raised the concern with the electricity department and requested to resolve the issue. However, it is sitting quiet and did not bring any solution.
ABMSU also threatened to gherao the electricity department if they were not given a solution soon.
