Assam: One person missing as boat capsizes in Brahmaputra River, rescue ops underway

The missing person has been identified as Gobin Saikia (43), resident of Bhalukmara.

In a tragic incident, a boat capsized in Assam’s Majuli district on Sunday morning and one person went missing after it.

The incident took place at Kordoiguri in Lower Majuli when a boat capsized while crossing the Brahmaputra River with three people and cattle onboard.

The missing person has been identified as Gobin Saikia (43), resident of Bhalukmara.

As per inputs, Saikia was accompanied by two companions when their boat encountered trouble by strong currents of the Brahmaputra.

Following the incident, the two persons managed to save their lives, while Saikia has not been found yet.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway, with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams deployed to the area.

Recently, on June 3, one person died and four others went missing after a boat capsized in Cachar area of Assam. According to reports, the incident occured in the Sonai Dakhin Mohanpur locality where an inflatable boat on relief duty carrying seven people, including women and children, capsized in floodwaters.

Meanwhile, rescue and search operation were launched with relief trams managing to recover the body of one individual and rescue two others alive.
