With the growing opposition against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has lashed out at the Congress referring to a cabinet decision taken by the then Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on July 16, 2014.

Patowary alleged that the Congress is misleading the people of Assam by taking two different stands during the Joint Parliamentary Committee hearing in Guwahati and Silchar.

The parliamentary affairs minister maintained that the state government will not file representation before the parliamentary panel regarding the Bill until the entire process of updating the NRC is completed.

Besides, Patowary further clarified that the state government will not make any move that will harm the indigenous people of Assam.
