Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Naba Kumar Sarania files nomination for Kokrajhar seat despite HC order

Despite the Gauhati High Court's ruling on Thursday, which declared Naba Kumar Sarania's Scheduled Tribe- Plains certificate invalid, he filed his nominations on Friday.

Gana Suraksha Party chief Naba Kumar Sarania on Friday filed his nomination papers for Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency despite the Gauhati High Court’s ruling on Thursday, which declared Sarania’s Scheduled Tribe- Plains certificate invalid and making him ineligible to fight elections.

While speaking to Northeast Live, Sarania said he is sure that he will get a chance to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and exuded confidence of winning the election from Kokrajhar constituency.

He further added that even if his nomination is cancelled by the scrutiny committee, he believes that one of their Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) candidate will be in the fray for the Kokrajhar seat. He claimed that only their party symbol torch light will shine in Kokrajhar.

Adding on, he stated that he is fully prepared to challenge and prove himself as a Scheduled Tribe member.

Naba Sarani is a two-time Kokrajhar MP. He won the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 as an Independent candidate. He won the seat again in 2019 Lok Sabha polls as a GSP candidate. He is the founder and president of GSP.

It is to be mentioned here that Kokrajhar will be going to polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place on May 7 along with Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri.
