Assam govt steps us COVID-19 preparedness; transforms Sarusajai Sports Complex into quarantine facility

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday briefed newspersons at the Sarusajai Sports Complex on the health department’s preparedness to deal with the Coronavirus crisis.
The Sarusajai Sports Complex which will be converted to a special facility for treating any COVID-19 case. Briefing newspersons Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a quarantine facility with 1,000 beds will be set up in the sports complex.
If any positive case surfaces, than family members of such COVID-19 infected patients would be kept in the quarantine facility under proper medical supervision.
Besides, a separate apartment will be built for the doctors and medical staffs who will be looking after such cases.
The Assam government’s preparedness to combat the novel Coronavirus is on a war footing. Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading from the front to tackle the menace.
On Thursday, Sarma informed that preparations are on to convert the Sarusajai Stadium and Nehru Stadium in Guwahati into temporary Corona quarantine centres.
Over 2,000 beds will be set up in the two stadiums combined. As many as 6 hospitals in the State have been turned into Corona treatment Centres.
The Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, Sonapur Hospital, Kalapahar Government Hospital, Ayurvedic College in around Guwahati and Tata Referral Hospital in Eastern Assam’s Chabua have been turned into Corona treatment Centres.
