Assam girls trafficked to Haryana, Rajasthan and Nagaland rescued

Of the 6 minor girls, 1 each were rescued from Harayana and Rajasthan, 2 from Assam’s Bokajan, 1 from Assam’s Tinsukia and 1 from Dimapur

In a major breakthrough, the Assam Police have rescued six minor Assam girls from the clutches of human traffickers from four different states over the last 10 days, police said.

The minor girls were rescued after several police stations in the Karbi Anglong district received missing person’s complaints, said Kangkan Kumar Nath, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).

“The first FIR was registered at Diphu police station on December 8,” he said. “Acting on it, we rescued a 16-year-old girl from Fatehabad in Haryana and also arrested one human trafficker,” said Kangkan Kumar Nath.

The official stated that when the district’s Bokajan police station received four more complaints, an operation to rescue the girls was launched. During the operation police rescued two girls from Assam’s Bokajan railway station, and one each from Dimapur railway station in Nagaland and Tinsukia in Assam.

Another 14-year-old girl was rescued from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.

“After registering the FIR at Bakalia police station on December 10, we learnt that the minor was sold for the purpose of marriage with a 33-year-old man in Jhunjhunu for Rs 1.5 lakh,” he said.

Two persons including a woman have been arrested in connection with the matter.
