They said that they will work for the party as well as for their community.

Many others will also join the party soon, said Arun Rai.

Speaking to the media, Rai stated that they have joined the UPPL in the hopes of working with the party to bring solutions to all the Rajbongshi community.

“As a UPPL workers, we will put forward the demands of our community to the Center and seek for solutions,” said Arun Rai.

Reacting to the development, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Boro said, ” BTR was celebrated for its inter-community unity, with diverse ethnic and cultural groups coexisting harmoniously. However, this unity gradually waned in the face of persistent violence, clashes, and mistrust that plagued the region, exacerbating divisions among communities and undermining the region’s stability. But over the past three years, the BJP-UPPL-led BTR council has played a key role in fostering a remarkable resurgence of solidarity and peace in the region. UPPL is the party of all communities in the region. Restoring unity has moved ahead by one step with the joining of Arun Rai and other former AAKRSU leaders to UPPL.”

Boro said that the party would spearhead efforts to address longstanding grievances the Koch-Rajbongshi community and promote socio-economic development across the BTR.

UPPL’s Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary said that the party will greatly benefit from their joining and that it will strengthen the party.

Elections for the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam will be held in three phases on April 19, April 26 and May 7.

Kokrajhar will vote on the third phase. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

UPPL’s Sidli MLA Joyanta Basumatary is contesting for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency as the candidate of the Assam NDA partners – UPPL, BJP and AGP.
