Floods may have receded in most parts of Assam, but that does not mean the people’s woes are over. With waters receded in Kampur, people are returning back to their homes which are now in a dilapidated state.
Some houses in low-lying areas are still submerged in water. People returning to their homes are broken-hearted to see their houses in such a heavily damaged state.
Years of hard work which leads to the setting up of a house has been ruined with floods devastating all in front of them. With most of the items and goods in the house severely damaged, people are staring at a dark future and are at a loss as to what needs to be done.
Meanwhile, similar situation prevails villages of Rangiya where farmlands lie devastated even though flood waters have receded. Paddy fields have been completely damaged with farmers staring at huge losses ahead this year.
In such a scenario, farmers are appealing to the government to provide them with financial assistance to make ends meet.
Meanwhile, floods have left behind a trail of devastation in Raha as well. Heavy floods caused by rivers such as Kolong, Kapili, Hariya, and Barpani have left several important roads in the area damaged.
About 104 PWD constructed roads in the region lie ruined even as flood waters recede. Meanwhile, riverside embankments have been heavily damaged in floods. Authorities in the meantime have sprung into action and are soon to begin repairing the embankments.
Moreover, a heavy storm last night has left behind a trail of devastation in Assam’s Amguri. The heavy storm hit Amguri and other parts of Upper Assam late last night. About 19 villages have been heavily impacted by the storm in Amguri alone.
Road communication has also been hit with trees blocking many roads after being uprooted in the storm last night.
While several houses have been damaged in the storm, some families had narrow escapes even as their houses got heavily damaged last night.
