After comfortably achieving the target of conducting 50 thousand tests a day, the Assam health department is on a war footing to conduct 1 lakh COVID-19 tests in the state today.

As part of the massive exercise, the health department in an attempt to arrest the surge in cases has set a target of conducting 10,000 tests in Guwahati alone where the spread of the Coronavirus had been alarming till recently.

Meanwhile, extensive testing is going on in other parts of the state, people were seen making a beeline outside the Covid testing centres. Thousands of samples were also collected from Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Bokakhal for Rapid Antigen Tests.

Minister of State for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika had announced that the government plans to conduct one lakh Covid tests on Wednesday. Hazarika said that the highest single day spike may be higher in comparison to other days considering the increase in number of tests.

The minister further added that necessary arrangements have been made to accommodate patients after the completion of 1 lakh tests.

It may be mentioned that Assam decided to go for mass testing on mission mode since community transmission was reported from the state. A total of 52,062 tests were conducted on Tuesday, while 60,425 tests were done on Monday.

With people coming out in huge numbers to get themselves tested, the health department is hoping that the chain of infection will break very soon.
