Assam CM Sarma pitches for holistic reforms in state-run madrassas

Chief Minister Sarma reiterated that Assam will set an example in reforming madrassa education.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again made it clear that any madrassa or other educational institute found to be harboring radical elements will be evicted.
Chief Minister Sarma said that the move has been welcomed by the local communities and that all students of evicted madrassas have been transferred to government schools with due cognizance of their parents.
Further, responding to a query if private madrassa were not abiding by government rules, the Assam Chief Minister said that the state government is working in tandem with madrassa communities to bring in significant reforms.
In fact, community heads have also assured to support the government and abide by rules set for madrassa education. Chief Minister Sarma reiterated that Assam will set an example in reforming madrassa education.
Well, Chief Minister Sarma’s latest reaction comes amid the latest eviction drive in Barpeta. The Barpeta district administration has evicted Jamiul Huda Islamic Academy, following the arrest of Saiful Islam, who is suspected to be a member of the Bangladeshi terrorist group Ansar-ul-Bangla Team.
As per inputs, Saiful Islam alias Suman is a Bangladeshi citizen who joined the madrassa as an Arabic teacher and continued his jihadist activities underground.
He even worked as an imam at a nearby mosque. The terrorist organization had tried to strengthen its module in Barpeta district and southern Assam. Moreover, a mobile phone, pen drive, and several important documents were seized from Saiful.
Worth mentioning here the madrassa was established in 2018 after illegally occupying government land.
