Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday wished sprinter Hima Das on her birthday. Hima Das, nicknamed as ‘Dhing Express’ who hails from Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district has turned 21 today.
CM Sonowal had a telephonic conversation with the ace athlete on the occasion of her birthday.
“Conveyed my best wishes to ace athlete @HimaDas8 over telephone on the occasion of her birthday. Also congratulated Assam’s sprint queen for qualifying for Tokyo Olympics, 2021,” Sonowal tweeted.
Hima who is preparing for Tokyo Olympics has tweeted on her birthday saying that birthday is no reason for her to stop training.
“Birthday is no reason for me to stop training. Always focussed on my goals and dreams!” she tweeted.
Born in 2000 to a farmer family of middle Assam’s Nagaon district, the young sports star has already reached impressive milestones with her sheer will and talent.
She holds the Indian National Record for speed in the 400 mts race category. Her record timing was 50.79 seconds during the 2018 Asian Games hosted in Jakarta. The all-time world record for sprint in 400mts (women) is 47.60 by German Sprinter Marita Koch in 1985. As for India, the former record was held by Manjeet Kaur with 51. 05 seconds.
