Assam CM kickstarts covid vaccination for 12-14 age group in Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was at the Rukiminigaon Girls Higher Secondary School in Guwahati to formally inaugurate the vaccination drive for children in the age group of 12 to 14 years. Health minister Keshab Mahanta was also present in the centre.

It may be mentioned here that the vaccines will be administered to the children in their respective schools. For those children who are not studying in schools, the vaccines will be administered in the local vaccination centres in their area of residence.

Addressing the event, CM Sarma talked about the fresh vaccine drive that has been started today.

CM Sarma also said that while Covid cases are rapidly rising in China with a new Covid variant, India would be better prepared to tackle another Covid wave thanks to its past experiences.

The Union Government after due deliberations with scientific bodies today started Covid-19 vaccination for children above the age of 12 from today. The Covid-19 Vaccine which is being administered is the Corbevax manufactured by the Biological E. Limited, Hyderabad.

It needs to be mentioned here that children above 14 years of age are already being administered covid vaccines under the ongoing vaccination programs.

Moreover the Government has also decided that the condition of co-morbidity for Covid Precaution Dose for population over the age of 60 will be removed. From today onwards, people above the age of 60 will be eligible for precaution dose of covid vaccine.
