Assam CM in Bhutan: First Visit by Any Assam CM, to Host Investment Meet Today, to Attend National Day Tomorrow

Chief Minister Sarma will attend the dinner to be hosted by Sudhakar Dalela, India's Ambassador to Bhutan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma landed in Bhutan today on a 4-day official visit. This is the first time ever that a Chief Minister of Assam is visiting Bhutan.

Soon after landing in Paro at around 3PM (IST) today, CM Sarma accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma and few senior Assam government officials, were received at the Paro international airport by Bhutan Foreign Minister Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel. From the airport they drove straight to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

In Thimphu, CM Sarma and his wife were given a warm, traditional welcome.

CM Sarma is hosting a business meet to be attended by Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Foreign Minister Dhungyel, Power Minister Lyonpo Gem Tshering, Minister for Trade and Commerce Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji and Chairperson of the Royal Privy Council Lyonpo Dr. Tandin Dorji. 100 top Bhutanese business leaders, government officials and opinion makers would be present too. The event is to give them and introduction to the Infrastructure and Investment Summit, Advantage Assam 2.0, that Assam is hosting in February next year to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Later today, Chief Minister Sarma will attend the dinner to be hosted by Sudhakar Dalela, India’s Ambassador to Bhutan.

Tomorrow at 8:15 AM, India time, Chief Minister Sarma will arrive at the Changlimithang Grounds to attend the Bhutan National Day. CM Sharma has been invited by Bhutan King His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to be the chief guest at the National Day celebrations.

Later tomorrow, CM Sarma will call on Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and attend the lunch to be hosted by PM Tobgay.

After this, CM Sarma will be going to Tashichö Dzong, the palace, for an audience with His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema.

A ceremonial procession will lead CM Sarma to the palace.

On Wednesday, December 18, CM Sarma will meet the 4th King and father of the present King of Bhutan, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Later in the day, CM Sarma will be given a presentation by Dr Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City.

The same night CM Sarma will attend a Royal banquet.

CM Sarma will depart from Bhutan for India on December 19.
